Course Overview
Course start dates are indicative and are subject to change. Students will receive information from their teacher upon enrolment including a confirmed start date and timetable. If applicable, students will also receive information about a course induction and directions on where to go on the first day.
The LEA Tuition & Licensing course caters for both tuition of the Licensed Electrician's Theory (LET), the Licensed Electrician's Practical (LEP) and the Safe Working Practical (SWP) components, as well as assessment of the LET, SWP and Restricted Electrical Licence (REL) components for the Victorian Licensed Electricians Assessments (LEA).

Attendance & commitment
General public face-to-face delivery | 2 weeks course length | Part-time study load
Students are expected to:
- Attend LET tuition over 5 consecutive days from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
- Attend SWP tuition over 2 consecutive days from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
- Attend LEP tuition over 3 consecutive days from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
LET assessment will be conducted over a 4-hour period.
SWP assessment will be conducted over a 2-hour period.
REL assessment will be conducted over a 2-hour period.

Entry requirements
GOTAFE entry requirements
To be selected for this course you will need to have completed or currently be enrolled as a 4th year apprentice in UEE30820 or UEE30811.
Information for students
Students need to have completed all units from their Certificate III in Electrotechnology before undertaking assessment for the LET-assessment, the SWP-assessment may be undertaken before the unit UEEEL0039 is completed.
Student also require an Authority to Undertake document issued from their RTO before undertaking any of these assessments.
Student resources
Students must have access to:
- A laptop/computer with internet access
- A digital camera or video camera for visual and audio assessment tasks
- General stationary (Pens, pencils, rulers, calculator)
- All appropriate Australian Standards (ie. AS3000, AS3008, AS3012, AS4836, Electrical safety (general) regulations)
Those undertaking the SWP-assessment are required to wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and safety boots. They are also required to bring their own set of insulated Australian Standard-approved gloves and outers, as well as their own insulation resistance and continuity tester as per Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) requirements.

- Skills Check – Some courses include a language and numeracy evaluation so we can tailor the right support before you start.
- Offer – We’ll review your application, contact you if we require anything else, and send you an offer. To secure your place, accept your offer and make any required pre-commencement payment.
- Welcome to GOTAFE – We’ll finalise your enrolment and share everything you need to feel ready. You may be asked to attend an online or in person induction session where we’ll outline the support available to you from day one.
Skills recognition / Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.
You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:
- Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) does not apply to non-accredited short courses.

Contingent Study Arrangements
Where a situation arises that prevents campus attendance (such as COVID restrictions, natural disasters, etc.) and it is deemed an appropriate response in protecting the health and safety of staff, students, and visitors, this course will adapt to alternative training arrangements, possibly using online methods of teaching and/or communication while students engage from home with their Trainers. Any required practical components of the course will be moved to a more appropriate time.
