Industrial action on campus
Industrial action has commenced on our campuses following the Australian Education Union’s (AEU) recent vote in favour of taking protected industrial action (PIA).
This is consistent with a bargaining process whereby Victoria’s twelve TAFEs work in conjunction with the Victorian TAFE Association (VTA) to negotiate a new agreement for teaching staff. The agreement is to set out the pay and conditions in line with the Victorian Government’s Wages Policy.
We recognise the rights of union members to choose whether to participate in PIA, and the right of unions to organise industrial action to further their bargaining claims.
The industrial action is not expected to have a widespread impact on students. Staff, students, and stakeholders may notice visual or physical demonstrations around campus (e.g. posters, t-shirts), and you may not be able to contact some teachers.
