Course Overview

This short course provides nationally accredited training on the safe operations and maintenance of tractors and front-end loaders for work-related requirements. Participants will learn skills to safely operate the tractor and front-end loader with and without attachments on various terrains and conditions.

This course will cover all requirements for occupational health and safety while conducting tractor and front-end loader operations.

Attendance & commitment

General public blended delivery | 2 days course length & pre-learning | Part-time study load

Students must:

  • Complete all online learning and learning quizzes before attending the practical days.
  • Review and commence Assessment 1 in goLearn before attending practical sessions where this assessment will be finalised.
  • Attend two days (7 hours per day) of practical training on-campus at the Shepparton William Orr Campus (varying days of attendance).
  • Complete some research and self-directed learning.
  • Satisfactorily complete all written and observable tasks to be deemed competent in this training.

Further information

  • Students will learn about the components, controls, and features of tractors and their functions and maintenance requirements to ensure safety of operations.
  • The practical training will develop skills to conduct pre-operational checks and operating techniques on a range of surfaces and terrains with and without attachments and loads.
  • All training aligns with Workplace Regulations and Codes of Practice.
  • Vehicles must be operated according to relevant state/territory licensing authority vehicle licence requirements and regulations.

  • To be selected for this course participants will need to be over the age of 16.
  • Students are required to wear work boots and long pants during practical sessions.

When undertaking practical assessment for this course individuals:

  • Need to wear work boots and long pants.
  • Must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Must not be taking any medication (prescribed or otherwise) that may impair judgement.
  • Must not be fatigued when operating the machinery.

Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.

You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:

  • Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.
