Course Overview

This short course is designed to support wineries in meeting FreshCare Food Safety & Quality Standard (Section E2.4) requirements. It provides essential training for staff who supervise or are authorised to store, handle, use, or dispose of hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods within a winery environment.
Participants will learn:
- Safe storage, handling, use, and disposal of hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods
- Practices that minimise the risk of environmental contamination
- Emergency response procedures for chemical spills, leaks, or spray drift
Upon completion, participants will meet the FreshCare training requirements under subsections 2.4.1 and 2.4.2, ensuring they remain competent in safe chemical management practices in line with industry and regulatory standards.

- Certificate III or IV in Agriculture or Horticulture (with a focus on chemical handling units)
- FBP30121 Certificate III in Food Processing

Course details
Attendance & commitment
Workplace face-to-face delivery | one day course length | part time study load
This course is delivered face-to-face in the workplace using workplace facilities and equipment. A combination of theory and practical training will be provided.
Students must attend a one-day (3 hours) training session at their nominated workplace.

GOTAFE Entry Requirements
Participants must be employed in the winery industry and undertake this short course training as part of their employment.
To undertake this course, you will need to:
- Wear enclosed footwear and suitable workwear appropriate for a winery or agricultural setting
- Bring a notebook and pen or preferred device for taking notes
- Bring your own PPE if required by your workplace (e.g., gloves, safety glasses)
- Be prepared to discuss your workplace’s current chemical handling practices (where relevant)
All learning materials will be provided. Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow for a prompt start.

Skills recognition / Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.
You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:
- Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.

Contingent Study Arrangements
