Course Overview

This short course provides formal training on the safe operations of quad bikes for work-related requirements. Participants will have the opportunity to gain and strengthen the skills and knowledge required to safely operate and maintain quad bikes as well as learn how to load and unload quad bikes onto trailers or other vehicles used for their transport.
Students will learn about the components, controls and features of quadbikes and their functions. The practical training will develop active riding techniques on a range of surfaces and terrains. All training will be conducted under Worksafe Regulations and Codes of Practice.

On successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for AHCMOM217 Operate quad bikes. This unit of competency may contribute towards an agriculture qualification.

Attendance & commitment
General public blended delivery | 2 days course length & pre-learning | Part-time study load
Students are expected to:
- Attend a 1 hour go Learn induction webinar 1 week prior to attending practical sessions.
- Complete approximately 10 hours of learning online prior to attendance at the practical sessions (compulsory).
- Attend 2 consecutive practical days on campus at William Orr (9am-4pm).

Entry requirements
To be selected for this course you must be over the age of 16 years.
Safety requirements
When undertaking practical assessment for this course:
- Students are required to wear work boots and long pants.
- No passengers are allowed on single seat quad bikes.
- No riders under 16 years of age on adult sized quad bikes.
- Helmets must be worn whilst operating quad bikes.
- Individuals must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Individuals must not be taking any medication (prescribed or otherwise) that may impair judgement.

Skills recognition / Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.
You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:
- Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) does not apply to non-accredited short courses.
