This short course is aimed at learners who wish to boost their confidence to undertake study and develop skills in literacy and numeracy to support further learning.

The topics covered will empower students to make meaning, think critically and creatively, and develop skills and strategies to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

The Ready, Set, Study course is also an appropriate pathway for learners who wish to achieve improved outcomes when resitting their BSKB (Basic Key Skills Builder) Literacy and Numeracy Assessment to gain entry into VET courses.

Attendance & commitment

General public blended delivery | 6 weeks course length | Part-time study load

Students are expected to:

  • Attend face-to-face classes scheduled on campus from 9am to 3.30 pm. These will generally be the first Tuesday, and the last Tuesday & Wednesday of the course, as per dates provided upon enrolment.
  • Attend scheduled virtual classes online two days per week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am to 3.30 pm for the 6-week duration of the course. This will include a three-hour class in the morning and a 3-hour study session with an optional trainer one-on-one or group support in the afternoon.
  • Spend approximately 2 hours per week working through their course materials research, revision, and completion of assessments outside of scheduled class times.

To participate in the online component of this course, students are expected to have access to:

  • A laptop/computer with reliable internet access.
  • A webcam and headset for participation in virtual classes and for visual and audio assessment tasks.

Skills recognition / Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.

You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:

  • Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.

Contingent Study Arrangements
