Currently in her third type of learning model at GOTAFE, Hannah D’Andrea knows a thing or two about moulding her study to fit her life goals and career path.

GOTAFE’s flexibility in course selection – as well as delivery – meant Hannah could turn her passion for early childhood education into a career as soon as she finished school, while also backing up her hands-on experience with further studies along the way.

“I did child development in school and I really enjoyed that and then I had to choose a VET course so I thought that would be a good area to go down, and I’ve loved it ever since,” Hannah said.

After initially starting her Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121) as a VDSS student while finishing Year 11 and 12, Hannah then moved her studies online to finish the qualification.

She is now completing her Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50121), also online, while she works full time in the industry at Kialla Children’s Centre.

It means GOTAFE has been able to support her every step of the way.

“(By) learning online, I’ve been able to use those skills in the workplace as well which I’ve really benefitted from,” Hannah said.

“I’ve learned so many skills that I’ve needed while studying and then I can see it first-hand as well in practice.”

Hannah found building her time management skills – with the help of her GOTAFE trainers – was an important step in being able to juggle work and study.

“Time management skills are very important, so I just try and set aside some time at home or on the weekends to get some work done and that helps a lot,” she said.

“I think the trainers are really supportive as well, they help you with the assessments and if you have any questions they’re always wanting you to succeed, so I’d definitely recommend it (studying at GOTAFE).”
