GOTAFE’s contextualised training programs continue to grow in popularity, with a globally significant local business being the latest to benefit.
Some 13 Beechworth Honey employees recently completed the Emerging Leaders program, which was piloted in 2021 and has grown to the point where 10 courses will run in 2023.
Beechworth Honey Co-owner and Director Jodie Goldsworthy said she saw the program as a way to help her staff grow.
“We had changes happening in our business and this was a good opportunity to build up the skill and unlock the talent that I knew was there within the team,” she said.
"Looking at the program (Trainer) Kerri (Symes) brought to us – I knew it would be perfect. It allowed us to combine three different work groups from different areas of the business. It’s really easy for staff to know what they do, but not realise the combination of all the parts. We combined the TAFE training with time spent by the teams better understanding other teams. “It’s been a really worthwhile investment. We are privileged to be able to work with GOTAFE to help our team grow their skills and experiences."

Hannah Van Holten was one of the staff to participate in the program and said it had helped her grow in confidence.
“I think the different learning styles has been the biggest take-away for me,” she said.
“I’ve learnt to think before you speak and how to have difficult conversations.
“I can now have those harder conversations and get up and talk in front of people, which I never would have done in the past.”
Trainer and Assessor Kerri Symes said the Emerging Leaders Program which has six sessions and runs over 12 weeks is hugely beneficial to all industries.
“The program supports new and current leaders to gain and build on their understanding and depth of knowledge about the many leadership facets that are required in organisations today,” she said.
“Beechworth Honey participants delved into understanding different leadership styles and the emotional and social intelligence skills required to assist staff in their growth and development.
“We looked at complex communication strategies to embed change and continuous improvement in our fast-moving workplace environments.
“The participants have come away with real solutions and knowledge to take straight back to the workplace.”
