Attendance & commitment

General public and industry group blended delivery | 10 weeks course length | Part-time study load

Students will be expected to:

  • Attend scheduled on-campus training and assessment for 6 one-day sessions, 9am – 4pm, as per the timetable provided.
  • Complete units online through GOTAFEs LMS goLearn.
  • Spend approximately 10 hours per week working through their course materials, research, revision, and assessment completion.

General public and industry group online delivery | 3 months course length | Part-time study load

Students will be expected to:

  • Attend a 2-hour weekly virtual class, as per the timetable provided by the trainer.
  • Complete units online through GOTAFEs LMS goLearn.
  • Spend approximately 12 hours per week working through their course materials, research, revision, and assessment completion.

General information for all students

Students will be expected to:

  • Have appropriate digital literacy to navigate online learning requirements including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office applications, cloud storage file management, recording and uploading videos, and various digital communication methods.
  • Have appropriate digital resources to engage in online learning, including internet and computer hardware.
  • Submission of assessments to goLearn (LMS) must be by scheduled due dates (dates provided by your trainer).
  • Communicate with their trainer via email, MS Teams, or goLearn (LMS) promptly if barriers or circumstances change with their studies or ability to submit assessments.
  • Meet the unit assessment requirements of this course, which includes live presentations, video assessments, and access to individuals to act as learners.
  • Students will have access to their trainer for one-on-one support via goLearn (LMS), MS Teams, email, or phone.

Entry requirements

GOTAFE entry requirements

Before being accepted into the course applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be able to demonstrate vocational competency (from within the last 5 years) in their proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.
  • Have access to a workplace or suitable training environment that replicates workplace conditions, where carrying out course assessments on suitable adult learners can occur. GOTAFE cannot support online learners in accessing these suitable audiences.

Online-only students must have access to a suitable training audience of up to four learners at one time (these may be adult colleagues, family, or other personal associates) to deliver course assessment tasks to be videoed as assessment evidence.

Student resources

Students must have:

  • Intermediate computer skills to be able to work independently on computer-based activities.
  • Reliable access to the internet and a suitable computer setup for blended learning and submitting/uploading various assessment requirements.
  • A webcam, microphone, headset, and speakers for virtual meetings.
  • A video recording device (this can be a smartphone or webcam) to record assessment activities.
  • Access to current industry equipment /materials /facilities /training resources required to undertake training and assessment tasks and activities.
  • Access to minimum numbers of training audience /validation participant numbers required to satisfy various assessment module tasks and activities.
  • Access to workplace /industry-specific codes of practice, regulations, and directives.
    Access to workplace/worksite safety and risk management framework, assessments, guidance, inductions, registers, and policies.
  • A second monitor is a great benefit when studying virtually but is not a requirement.

Industry requirements

Once qualified, VET Assessors must meet assessor requirements as outlined in ASQA (The Australian Skills Quality Authority) 'Standards for Registered Training Organisations' such as:

  • Hold the required credentials.
  • Hold vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed.
  • Have current industry skills directly relevant to the assessment being provided.
  • Have current knowledge and skills in vocational training and learning that inform their assessment.
  • Undertake relevant professional development.

  • Aspirations/career goals
  • Educational attainment and capability
  • Literacy and numeracy skills
  • Suitability for Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer

Skills recognition / Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.

You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:

  • Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.

The student tuition fees as published are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment. Please note all fees and charges are correct at the time of publication for 2025 and may change without notice.

Material fees cover costs associated with the following where applicable, and not limited to:

  • Classroom activity consumables, handouts, and booklets
  • E-learning resources and associated license access fees
  • Excursions

Additionally, some courses require students to purchase or supply textbooks, kits, tools, uniforms, and personal protection equipment. Some specific materials may be purchased through the GOTAFE Bookshop. Contingent Study Arrangements
