We know that study is just one part of your life, and sometimes you need some support in areas outside your studies. We have a number of wellbeing and support services to help you through life's ups and downs, and to give you the best chance of succeeding in your studies and life. Whether you need support with time management, your mental health, grief and loss, a diagnosed disability, financial hardship, study skills or any other challenge life throws your way, we are here to help.

Free Counselling

Looking for someone to talk to? We offer free counselling services to help you work through life’s challenges including stress, managing change, grief and loss, mental health, relationships, or anything else that is impacting your emotional wellbeing. You don’t have to face things alone, reach out today to discuss your options.

Equitable Learning

Supporting students with a diagnosed a disability or medical condition that impacts their ability to be successful in study. Can help establish reasonable adjustments and develop Equitable Learning Plans (ELP) to be successful at GOTAFE and participate equally in the learning environment.

Welfare Support

Whether you’re on campus or studying remotely, support is available in person, by phone, email, or through Teams. Support for a wide range of concerns, including academic, homelessness, Centrelink issues, time management, payment plans, classroom matters, advocacy, financial challenges, and relationship or interpersonal issues. Whatever you’re facing, we’re here to help you succeed.

Koorie Students

GOTAFE supports all Koorie students enrolled with us or through our partners. We help create cultural pathways, offer Koorie Liaison Officers for referrals and in-class support, and provide the Koorie Unit at Shepparton Fryers Street as a culturally safe space. We also work with community to strengthen pathways for learning and study.

Apprentice Support

Two programs are available to help apprentices feel confident, supported and successful throughout their training. The Apprenticeship Support Officer Program is a Victorian Government initiative offering early mentoring and confidential help across all trades, including workplace or personal concerns. The Apprentice Experience and Retention Officer program is a GOTAFE service that stays with you from induction to completion, helping build engagement, wellbeing and success so you get the most out of your apprenticeship.

Youth Accommodation

If you are experiencing homelessness, or at risk during your studies, you may be able to access safe accommodation through the Education First Youth Foyer in Shepparton. Which provides secure and affordable housing for up to two years, with 24-hour support, education and employment opportunities, and independent living skills for young people aged 16 to 24 who are unable to live at home and committed to study or training.

Learning Skills Support

A free and confidential service to help you build the foundation skills you need to be successful at TAFE. Improve your english language, maths and/or writing skills; enhance your computer, exam and study capabilities.

Library

Our library team are passionate about supporting students to achieve their study goals. They have subject guides, referencing help, and online resources to assist you with your assessments.

Our Skills & Jobs team can assist and talk through you through options for courses, careers, assistance with job applications and more.

IT Support

Having trouble accessing any GOTAFE learning tools or just can’t wrap your head around Office 365? IT support is available to help you with any queries via email during business hours Monday to Friday. Our team will endeavour to get back to you within 48 hours, or get some hints and tips on this page

Pathways & Placements

The Placements and Pathways team connects students with practical placement opportunities to gain hands-on experience and build industry networks. These placements help bridge the gap between study and career success, giving students the chance to apply their skills in real workplaces.

Refugee Support

GOTAFE has partnered with Primary Care Connect to offer trauma-informed refugee supports for students who have experience being a refugee or asylum seeker. To book an appointment, please reach out to Student Wellbeing.

Compassionate Grants for students

At GOTAFE we understand that sometimes students experience serious financial and personal difficulties whilst studying, due to Extraordinary or Exceptional Life Circumstances beyond their control, which may cause them to withdraw or to be in severe financial hardship.

Saver Plus is a not-for-profit program that offers $500 for education expenses to eligible participants. If you're on a tight budget, want to build financial skills, and develop life-long savings habits, this program is for you.
