Retention & Engagement Service

Being a student can be tough and life doesn’t go on hold while we are undertaking studies. GOTAFE recognises that the transition to education can be challenging for the student, their families, friends and sometimes their community. Staying focused on important goals such as education can be difficult. Retention Engagement Officers (REO’s) are qualified and experienced welfare workers who can help students with issues that may impact on their ability to study.

Some possible issues are:

  • Finding study difficult
  • Family problems
  • Health concerns
  • Homelessness
  • Centrelink matters
  • Time management
  • Course payment plans
  • Issues within the classroom
  • Advocacy
  • Relationships with others

The REO encourages people to develop their strengths, explore possibilities and make their own decisions. Regular contact can be made with students to give them the chance to raise concerns they may be experiencing while undertaking study with GOTAFE.

The Retention Engagement Officers provide a wide range of supports which includes Life Skills programs and Coaching Young People for Success program.

Confidentiality

Whatever you discuss with a Retention Engagement Officer remains confidential except in situations where you or someone else is at significant risk of harm. Your permission will be required before information can be given to anyone else.
