Post date: 29th June 2022

The program will help refugees and asylum seekers quickly settle into Australian life, by providing them with vital speaking skills, along with reading, and writing skills, and the confidence to embrace living in our community. The program is available for students attending GOTAFE under the AMEP program.

Over 50 students are involved in the program and so far, 20 volunteer tutors have been trained and are now meeting with students. GOTAFE is seeking to add more tutors to the program so more students can learn one-on-one or in small groups.

Volunteer tutors are required to provide one to two hours a week of tutoring students, for a minimum of six months. The sessions can take place either face-to-face at the GOTAFE Shepparton Library, located at the Fryers Street Campus, or virtually using Zoom or phone calls.

Volunteers will be given 15 hours of training over five weeks and will be matched to one or a group of students.

Apply now to be a volunteer tutor

The next training program to become a volunteer tutor commences on Wednesday 13 July, from 9.30am-12pm at GOTAFE Fryers Street Shepparton Campus or via Zoom from 6-8pm.

Thank you to everyone that has contacted us regarding our July 2022 start, we have now closed the application process for this intake.
