Zuraihan Md Naki Yuddin, originally from Malaysia, is pursuing a Certificate III in EAL (Access) (22640VIC) at GOTAFE.

Her journey into learning English has been one of determination, driven by the challenges she faced when she moved to Australia.

“When I first arrived, I couldn’t speak English well," she said.

"It was hard to communicate, and I felt limited—socially and in opportunities.

“After I had children, it became even harder.

“I struggled to talk with teachers and read with my kids.

"Even simple tasks like shopping were a challenge.”

Determined to improve, Zuraihan saw English as the key to new opportunities.

“I knew I had to change, and enrolling at GOTAFE was the only way to build my skills and confidence,” she said.

Encouraged by friends who had found success through GOTAFE, she enrolled last year.

Her experience has been transformative.

“It’s been amazing—like opening doors I never thought possible,” she said.

“My confidence has grown so much.

“I used to be scared to speak because of the language barrier, but now I feel more comfortable.”

While she continues to work on her grammar and communication skills, she is proud of how far she has come.

Zuraihan credits GOTAFE’s supportive environment for her progress.

“The teachers and trainers believe in you, even when you don’t believe in yourself,” she said.

"They help you discover what you’re capable of."

With newfound confidence, Zuraihan has set her sights on the future.

“I’ve enrolled in a Certificate IV in Mental Health and hope to pursue a diploma,” she said.

“I’m excited to keep learning and growing.”

For anyone considering GOTAFE, Zuraihan offers encouragement.

“It’s not just about learning English—it’s a community that helps you succeed,” she said.

“This experience has changed my life, and I highly recommend it.”
