GOTAFE’s art and design students are busy creating pieces for their upcoming exhibitions in Wangaratta and Shepparton.

Paige Boness is a VDSS student completing a Certificate III in Design Fundamentals (CUA30720).

She is currently working on three pieces for the upcoming NEXT 24 VCE/VM Student Showcase Exhibition, taking place from October 3 – 31 at the Bainz Exhibition Gallery in Wangaratta.

“Two of the pieces I am creating are part of a collage project we took part in in class,” Paige said.

One of her pieces is inspired by the TV show Second City Television.

“I was watching the show for a few months, and I got really into it,” Paige said.

“I really enjoyed the collage unit in class and got the idea to make my own.”

The piece has colourful rays in the background, with a TV in the middle and a collage of characters and the names of actors who star in the show.

Similarly, the second piece is a movie poster promoting Little Shop of Horrors.

“In the movie, there is a killer venus fly trap and it feeds off human blood and flesh,” Paige said.

The movie follows a man named Seymour who works at a flower shop and finds the venus fly trap.

He named the plant after his crush (Audrey), and every time he fed the plant blood, it grew until it became dangerous.

“I have drawn Audrey and Seymour wrapped in the vines of the venus fly trap plant, with bubbles in the corner of the piece with the characters who are in the movie.”

Paige is still working on her third and final piece but is excited for the exhibition in Wangaratta later this month.

“I am really looking forward to showing my artwork,” Paige said.

“I will bring my mum and some friends to see the pieces I have created.”

Once completing her studies, Paige hopes to start a business one day – but first, is focused on getting the most out of her time with GOTAFE.

“I want to get better at art and design more broadly, especially working with different dimensions,” Paige said.

“My favourite part of the course so far has been making the pieces for this exhibition.

“I’ve really enjoyed getting to know people, and the trainers are really supportive.”
