Join the cyber security fight this October
GOTAFE is encouraging prospective students upskill and meet the growing needs of the cyber security industry.
IT and Cyber Security student Jakk Devlin this week spoke on a panel of industry experts at Committee for Greater Shepparton and NBN’s Business Cybersecurity Breakfast, highlighting the value of vocational education in meeting workforce needs.
October is Cyber Security Awareness Month, with this year’s theme 'cyber security is everyone's business'. The Australian Cyber Security Centre states that cybercrime reports have been increasing, and malicious cyber activity continues to pose a risk to every Australian.
According to the Victorian Skills Authority, an additional 2249 new workers will be needed in database and systems administrators, and ICT security specialist jobs in Victoria by 2026. GOTAFE is helping to train this workforce.
“I believe the IT and cyber security industry is one of the fastest growing industries of our time,” IT and Cyber Security student Jakk Devlin said.
“Every day it is getting more advanced… I believe vocational training providers are more important now than ever before.”
“With growth in the IT industry and cyber-attacks increasing, there are many opportunities.
"There is such a diverse range of career paths in the field of cyber security, allowing for specialisation in areas such as ethical hacking, incident response, digital forensics or even security consulting."

“GOTAFE has amazing Trainer and Assessors who can help you get into industry,” Jakk said.
“There is always something to learn or a new challenge, which keeps work interesting – no two days are ever the same.”
