Humans of GOTAFE – Emily Duke
Emily Duke completed a Diploma of Leadership & Management (BSB50420) to improve how she could support and lead her team at GOTAFE.
According to LinkedIn’s 2023 Workplace Learning Report, skill sets for jobs have changed by around 25% since 2015. By 2027, this number is expected to double, making it the perfect time to upskill and retrain either yourself or your staff.
Emily Duke completed a Diploma of Leadership & Management (BSB50420) in 2021 to support her in a management position at GOTAFE and feels empowered to do her job in a more meaningful way.
“Completing a Diploma of Leadership & Management allowed me to upskill, and improved my ability to lead my team,” she said.
“I feel equipped to help others adapt to changes happening around them and it has supported me through a few role changes.”
As an employee at GOTAFE, Emily was given adequate support to ensure she was able to complete her course.
"I was provided with flexible hours to accommodate day classes. My trainers provided me with as much support as possible – they wanted to see me succeed. They really care about your learning journey. Their passion for industry really shone through at the end of each class."
Although Emily initially struggled to find balance between work, study and life outside the two, with the help of those around her, she was able to find a happy medium.
“I was working from home, so already spending quite a lot of time at my desk. It just meant having to allocate my time carefully and plan study breaks.
“It did help having the accountability from my family, friends, trainers and peers though. I made it to the end of my course with their support!”
