A Care Workforce Labour Market Study commissioned by the Australian Government predicted a gap of more than 200 000 full-time care workers by 2050 in Australia alone.

GOTAFE delivers a number of courses in the care sector, including the Certificate III in Individual Care (CHC33021) which has mid-August and October intakes this year.

Coordinator Community Services at GOTAFE John Katsourakis said improved levels of training will help support industry in meeting requirements.

"We know that there is an increasing need for both aged and disability care services within our community. Workers in the whole of the caring economy workforce do some of the most essential work in our community."

Additionally, the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) has predicted that the skills shortage in aged care itself could reach 110 000 or more in the next decade and well over 400 000 by 2050.

“People of all ages are considering career changes, and I encourage them to consider a rewarding career supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.”
