Sometimes it’s hard to know what direction you’re heading, especially after high school! At GOTAFE, students can open their worlds and link pathways to their dream career by completing VETDSS (VET Delivered to Secondary Students.

Elsie has kick-started her career during her final year of high school by completing a Certificate II in Kitchen Operations (SIT20416), where the classroom transforms students learning environment into real-world experiences. Students learn important skills such as preparation and presentation of dishes as well as important skills in food hygiene, keeping kitchen premises and equipment clean, and working in a team environment.

Elsie gives the run down on why completing her Certificate II in Kitchen Operations will put her ahead of the crowd for her career goals.

Why did you choose to study Certificate II in Kitchen Operations?

I love hospitality! And I really want to be a flight attendant when I complete my schooling. I thought this would be helpful in learning behind the scenes work as well as what we do front of house. It’s a certificate that’s recognised internationally too.

What made you choose GOTAFE to complete your course?

I had heard a lot of good things about doing TAFE while you’re completing school. If you don’t know what you want to do when you finish your high school education, you still have a qualification at the end of it. It opens you to so many more opportunities.

What’s life look like for you in five years’ time?

Hopefully be a flight attendant travelling the world. I do want to do primary teaching as well, so I’d like to do that first and then pursue a career as a flight attendant.

Have you got a bucket list of all the places you’re excited to travel to?

Definitely Greece or Amsterdam!

How do I enrol?

If you're a high school student, you can nominate a VET course as part of your normal course selection process with your school starting from Year 10.
