GOTAFE offer programs from Certificate II in Health Services, Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, HACC or Disability), right up to the Advanced Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2). 

Our VET in schools program gives students the chance to study Certificate III in Health Services Assistance. We support you through the enrolment process. Our experienced instructors will help you navigate your way to the right choice for your career goals, whether that’s paediatric nursing, or accident and emergency.

Division 2 Nursing offers chances to work in many different settings. You could also work in community care, mental health and rehabilitation.

With our relationship with La Trobe University, you’ll can move straight into studying a full Bachelor of Nursing.

COURSES AVAILABLE

The 22469VIC Course in Introduction to the National Disability Insurance Scheme is a short course designed to provide new entrants to direct support work, with a suitable introduction to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and an understanding of how to work effectively with a person who participates in the NDIS.

The course provides a pathway to further qualifications – it is not intended as a replacement for full certificate-level qualifications.

This course would suit people who can:
• support NDIS participants to achieve their stated goals
• put the person they are supporting at the centre of service delivery
• use a human rights approach to providing the required services and supports
• work with individuals based on their strengths and interests
• protect the dignity and privacy of the people they are supporting
• respect the people they are supporting, their preferences, plans and decisions
• recognise and respond to violence, abuse and neglect
• build trust with others
• solve problems quickly and locally
• work collaboratively and safely.

Workers may be in residential facilities and/or in community agencies and day centres, completing specialised tasks and functions in relation to leisure and health.

The worker is required to conduct therapeutic and program related activities under the guidance of an allied health professional. Supervision may be direct, indirect or remote and must occur within organisation requirements. The worker is required to identify client circumstances that need additional input from the allied health professional. The worker may be engaged to work in a specialty area or work generically across the organisation in delivery of allied health assistance services. The worker, in conjunction with the allied health professional, may have responsibility for supervising other allied health assistance workers.

The HLT54115 Diploma of Nursing is the recognised qualification to become an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2). This course reflects the role of an enrolled nurse working under supervision of a registered nurse.

A graduate from a Diploma of Nursing program approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) is able to apply for registration with the NMBA as an enrolled nurse.

The course is delivered face-to face in the classroom and requires 440 hours of mandatory professional experience placement.
