Careers Day Out – Thursday April 30th

Deciding what to do after school can be a big decision for Secondary School Students and for job seekers and career changers, entering the workforce can be a challenging process, so it helps to have all the options available all in one place.

The 2015 Careers Day Out to be held on Thursday 30 April at the McIntosh Centre, Shepparton Showgrounds will provide regional students, their parents and job seekers with a range of exhibitors from educational providers to defence force representatives as well as local business owners all in one place.

Careers Day Out Committee Member and GOTAFE Event Officer, Emily Hamilton said that a key focus for the organisers was to create an event that has a broader appeal within the local community, saying she is confident the event has something to offer everyone.

“Careers Day Out has something to offer not just school leavers but career changers, job seekers, those returning to earning and parents can also attend after work to gather information and support their children’s study ambitions and dream career paths without having to travel to Melbourne,” said Emily.

“Attendees will have opportunity to attend panel sessions to hear from potential employers, employment agencies, and Centrelink about the opportunities and assistance available.”

“Its free to attend, its local and the extended hours enable greater accessibility for the general public to attend.”

Again in 2015, Careers Day Out will have a strong focus on work readiness, providing students and job seekers with practical activities to prepare them for employment including resume writing workshops, mock interviews, professional panel Q & A sessions, job seeking tips and general information on employment and training opportunities.

For over 10 years the annual event has provided more than 1,800 secondary school students with the opportunity to discover the diverse range of careers, education, pathways and employment available within North East Victoria. The event will be open to students from 9am to 3pm as part of their usual school program and the general public can attend from 4pm to 6pm, entry during the public session is free.
