This course is perfect for both horse owners and competitors and will suit those who have a passion to work and train horses in a wide range of equine sectors; performance, breeding or racing.
The online course structure allows you to learn anywhere, anytime. This course is intended to provide participants with a range of knowledge, and skills to perform the following functions associated with the role of groom/ strapper/ senior groom in the performance horse sectors.
- Handle, feed, exercise, groom and care for horses
- Work with a wide variety of horses of different sizes, features and temperaments
- Work within workplace procedures and codes of practice within designated timeframes
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members alike
- Be capable of administering first aid to humans and to horses through completion of relevant units of competency
This course is made up of 16 units; 8 core units and 8 electives. Students can choose from two electives. Students who select the unit NSWTEQU206B Ride Performance Horses for Exercise in an Arena must have a NCAS (National Coaching Accreditation Scheme) Instructor’s sign off prior to enrolment.
This online course provides comprehensive training in all aspects of caring for mares and foals throughout the full reproductive cycle from conception to preparing for sales.
You will complete units in a sequence which has been aligned to the breeding cycle of horses and consequently the activities of the horse breeding industry. You will have the opportunity to undertake placement in the breeding industry during foaling down and sales preparation.
