With work underway to deliver a new, easily accessible campus in the heart of Benalla’s CBD, GOTAFE is also taking the step of trialling free transport from Benalla to Wangaratta for GOTAFE students.

This is in addition to continuing to deliver Benalla based courses in 2023, initially from the Benalla Performing Arts Centre and then from both the CBD Campus and Benalla Health later this year.

Beginning on Monday, 6 February, the bus trial comes off the back of community consultations held late last year and is part of GOTAFE’s overall plan to modernise education delivery in Benalla.

Travis Heeney, CEO GOTAFE said the bus trial will expand education opportunities for the Benalla community.

"We are all aware that transport is one of the main barriers for young people, particularly in our regional communities, making it harder to access education. This is why we’re building an easily accessible campus in the heart of Benalla, and trialling free transport for Benalla students"

“The free bus service will help support students currently studying at GOTAFE in Wangaratta,” he said.

“GOTAFE is committed to delivering quality education in Benalla that aligns with the demand in the region,” he added.

The 20-seater bus will run from Monday to Friday, dropping students off at the GOTAFE Docker Street and Tone Road campuses.

GOTAFE continues to deliver priority courses in Benalla, with Semester 1 courses commencing from the Benalla Performing Arts and Convention Centre while construction of the new CBD campus is underway. When the CBD campus fit-out is complete, students will continue their studies from the new facilities. We will continue to keep the community updated as the project progresses.

The Australian Christian College is now operating at the old Samaria Road site and GOTAFE is pleased to see the campus retaining its purpose as an education facility.
