The awards recognise the outstanding academic results and personal attributes of graduating students. Victoria, Rory and Jintana were awarded for their fantastic results in the Diploma of Nursing (HLT54121) at GOTAFE.

Rory, who studied nursing in Wangaratta, said “the award came as a surprise to me, I was so stoked that I had received it. To me, the award means that no matter what my performance at school was, these things don't shape the future. What matters is my determination, perseverance, and passion. It reflects on the efforts I put into something I enjoyed and felt was important to me.”

“I decided to study nursing because I find it extremely rewarding when I make the effort to try and make someone's day that little bit better, I always felt like I was an empathetic and compassionate person, and thanks to Free TAFE, I thought I would give nursing a crack,” Rory said.

“One of the other things that I really liked about nursing is its versatility in career pathways, I can take it anywhere, and do lots of things with it,” he added.

Michelle Chiller, GOTAFE Director of Health, Wellbeing and Community congratulated the students on their success. “Victoria, Rory and Jintana excelled throughout their studies, showing incredible knowledge and skill, as well as compassion and care for their patients. It is fantastic to see them recognised at such a high level. They should be very proud of themselves,” she said.

The Diploma of Nursing (HLT54121) is currently available under the Free TAFE Scheme and there are still places available to study in Wangaratta in 2023

"Nurses play a pivotal role in the community, providing direct care to patients and making a positive impact on their health and well-being. There are many opportunities for career advancement and specialty areas of practice. Nursing is a rapidly growing profession that is in high demand. There has never been a better time to pursue a career in nursing and GOTAFE offers pathways to get you there under the Free TAFE program."
