Course Overview
This course provides formal training on the safe use of side-by-side utility vehicles for work-related requirements.
Students will have the opportunity to gain and strengthen the skills and knowledge required to safely operate and maintain side-by-side utility vehicles. Participants must be over the age of 16 years to enrol in this course.

Attendance & commitment
General public blended delivery | 10 days course length | Part-time study load
This short course is 10 days in duration in total with blended online learning and 2 days of face-to-face delivery.
- Students are provided with a study plan which outlines their enrolment and course structure. They are also given an induction.
- After their online induction session, students will be required to work through their learning and assessment materials in their own time in the ten days prior to attending two days of face-to-face sessions
- Practical training will be conducted at the GOTAFE William Orr Campus over two consecutive days from 9am - to 4pm using a variety of side-by-side utility vehicles.
- Students will learn about the components, controls, and features of SXSUV and their functions. The practical training will develop active riding techniques on a range of surfaces and terrains.
- In addition, students are expected to complete some research and self-directed learning and can access their trainer for one-on-one support as required. All training aligns with Workplace Regulations and Codes of Practice.

GOTAFE entry requirements
- Students must be over the age of 16 years to enrol in this course.
- Students are required to wear work boots and long pants during practical training.
Inherent requirements
- Students will be required to complete an online learning module prior to attending the two-day practical training sessions. Practical training will be conducted at the GOTAFE William Orr Campus over two consecutive days using a variety of SXSUVs. Students will learn about the components, controls, and features of SXSUV and their functions. The practical training will develop active riding techniques on a range of surfaces and terrains. All training will be conducted under Worksafe Regulations and Codes of Practice. To undertake this course you will need to wear work boots and long pants.
When undertaking practical assessment for this course:
- No riders under 16 years of age on adult-sized quad bikes.
- Individuals must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Individuals must not be taking any medication (prescribed or otherwise) that may impair judgement.

Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.
You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:
- Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.
