Overview

Course start dates are indicative and are subject to change. Students will receive information from their teacher upon enrolment including a confirmed start date and timetable. If applicable, students will also receive information about a course induction and directions on where to go on the first day.

Introduction

This course is for people who have already completed the full Farm Chemical Users Certificate. It is recommended that people undertake a refresher course to keep up to date with changes in technology, label changes safety practices, and regulations.

Students will learn how to transport and store chemicals safely, and prepare and apply chemicals to control pests, weeds, and diseases.

This course is non-accredited training. Students will receive a Certificate of Attendance to acknowledge their participation and recertification with AusChem. This refresher course meets the requirements of most Industry Quality Assurance Programs to show currency of chemical training.

This short course assists students in gaining employment in Production Agriculture, Horticulture, Nurseries, Turf, Pests, or Land Owner roles.

Attendance & commitment

General public face-to-face delivery | 1 day course length | Part-time study load

Students are expected to:

  • Attend the full one-day (7-hour) face-to-face workshop at William Orr Campus (Shepparton).
  • Bring and wear appropriate protective clothing and shoes.
  • Actively participate in discussions, practical demonstrations, and group activities throughout the day.
  • Engage with updated AusChem content, including any regulatory changes, safety practice updates, and label requirements.
  • Ask questions and seek clarification to ensure understanding of updated requirements and workplace application.
  • Apply updated knowledge in their workplace following completion of the refresher.

General public online delivery | 4 weeks course length | Part-time study load

Students are expected to:

  • Complete an induction into goLearn prior to starting the course.
  • Undertake online study over the 4-week course period, working through all modules in goLearn.
  • Engage with all learning resources, including updated AusChem guidelines, regulatory changes, label updates, and safety practices.
  • Complete all embedded quizzes and knowledge checkpoints to confirm understanding of the material.
  • Contact their trainer via email if clarification or support is required during the course.
  • Ensure all activities are completed within the 4-week access period to maintain compliance with AusChem recertification requirements.

Entry requirements

Mandated entry requirements

Students must have a current AGVET Chemical Users Certificate or previously named Farm Chemical Users Course and provide evidence, such as an AusChem registration number.

GOTAFE entry requirements

Students are required to have successfully completed:

  • AHCCHM304 Transport and store chemicals
  • AHCCHM307 Prepare and apply chemicals to control pests, weeds, and diseases

Student resources

Students attending on campus will be required to have:

  • Workboots/enclosed in shoes.
  • Long pants.
  • Long sleeve shirt.
  • Sunscreen.
  • Access to digital camera or video camera for visual and audio assessment tasks.
  • General stationary (Pens, pencils, rulers).

  4. Skills Check – Some courses include a language and numeracy evaluation so we can tailor the right support before you start.
  5. Offer – We’ll review your application, contact you if we require anything else, and send you an offer. To secure your place, accept your offer and make any required pre-commencement payment.
  6. Welcome to GOTAFE – We’ll finalise your enrolment and share everything you need to feel ready. You may be asked to attend an online or in person induction session where we’ll outline the support available to you from day one.

Skills recognition / Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.

You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:

  • Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) does not apply to non-accredited short courses.

Contingent Study Arrangements

Where a situation arises that prevents campus attendance (such as COVID restrictions, natural disasters, etc.) and it is deemed an appropriate response in protecting the health and safety of staff, students, and visitors, this course will adapt to alternative training arrangements, possibly using online methods of teaching and/or communication while students engage from home with their Trainers. Any required practical components of the course will be moved to a more appropriate time.
