Student Spotlight - Molly Crow
The animal industry has something on offer for everyone – and GOTAFE’s flexible options are here to help you find your place.
From theory to the buzz of a newly operational real clinic, GOTAFE’s Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (ACM40418) puts students beside trainers and patients from day one.
At Wangaratta’s Tone Road Campus students learn to monitor anaesthesia, keep fields sterile, and support recovery—building confidence through hands-on care.
Molly Crow is one of these students who is excited to experience the bright lights of surgery from the comforts of her home campus.
“It’s definitely a great opportunity to learn in a supported environment, rather than being thrown in the deep end and having to swim. Being guided and taught through the process makes a huge difference,” Molly said.
“Knowing the nurses and vets around you is really important as well. Going into a completely different external environment would be tough without knowing the people, how they work, or even the equipment and how it’s set up.

“The course is preparing us for all aspects of veterinary work, from cleaning right through to monitoring equipment. It has definitely helped me understand the path I want to go down and the areas I’d like to learn more about in the future. You get to work with different animals and experience different types of veterinary work we might do one day, such as pathology, surgery, and nutrition.”
Molly has always been drawn to working alongside animals, with GOTAFE’s flexible study options allowing her to study Veterinary Nursing at her own pace after life threw her a curveball.
“I’ve previously worked in the animal industry on farms and chose the vet nursing path because I love animals. Unfortunately, a few years ago I had a severe accident that meant I needed to find a different path within the industry which had led me to Veterinary Nursing,” she said.
“This industry needs more people, and organisations like GOTAFE allow individuals to learn at their own pace—whether that’s faster or slower, bit by bit. That flexibility helps people from all backgrounds find their way into the industry.”
