After completing a Certificate III in Information Technology (ICT30120) in 2023, Jakk decided to pursue further study and is currently completing a Certificate IV in Cyber Security (22603VIC).

“GOTAFE offer multiple courses that aren’t super long,” he said.

“Having the courses run for a year worked out really well for me… I had just finished school and was looking to move.

“Committing to a year of classes has worked out much better than committing to a three-year university course.”

Jakk has always had a passion for technology and computers and is using skills learned at GOTAFE as a Specialist Technician at Echuca College.

“I love figuring out how computers work and what we can do to optimise them,” he said.

"I believe the IT and cyber security industry is one of the fastest growing industries of our time."

“Every day it is getting more advanced… I believe vocational training providers are more important now than ever before.”

GOTAFE and other vocational education providers are critical in training the future workforce for the IT and cyber security industry.

“With growth in the IT industry and cyber attacks increasing, there are many opportunities,” he said.

“There is such a diverse range of career paths in the field of cyber security, allowing for specialisation in areas such as ethical hacking, incident response, digital forensics or even security consulting.”

This diversity means it is becoming easier to find a niche which matches your interests.

“GOTAFE has amazing Trainer and Assessors who can help you get into industry,” he said.

“There is always something to learn or a new challenge, which keeps work interesting – no two days are ever the same.”
