Student Spotlight - Callan Gundrill
GOTAFE student Callan Gundrill talks about his journey to becoming a qualified plumber.
Certificate III in Plumbing (CPC32420) student Callan Gundrill’s journey began with his father, a plumber himself.
Callan started helping him on weekends and, by Year 10, secured a school-based apprenticeship with his dad.
This hands-on experience has given him a deeper understanding of the trade, and Callan feels he’s learning more working in a family business than he feels he would in a larger company.

"I like that you can do heaps of different things on the job."

Callan also enjoys the physical nature of plumbing, as it keeps him active.
“We are currently working on a lot of new builds and in estates,” he said.
Callan has recently started using the upgraded facilities at the Archer Street campus, which he finds much better than those previously used at William Orr Campus, making his learning experience even more enjoyable.
The improved environment at Archer Street supports his hands-on learning and allows him to develop the necessary skills for his future career.
Callan’s journey in plumbing, supported by his family, hands-on learning, and the variety of tasks, is shaping up to be a fulfilling and dynamic career path.
