Alistair Wall’s passion for GOTAFE is clear for all to see.

Not only is he about to complete his fifth different qualification across almost two decades with GOTAFE – he’s set to join the organisation as an employee as well.

Currently finishing a Certificate IV in Information Technology (ICT40120), Alistair will begin a customer support role with GOTAFE in the Digital Solutions team later this month – highlighting the flexibility of his studies.

“GOTAFE has given me so much, and I felt a strong desire to give back,” Alistair said.

“It feels like a community, and I wanted to be part of that - to contribute in the same way my teachers did for me.

“Joining the team means I can share my own journey, support new students, and be part of an amazing environment that truly makes a difference in people’s lives.”

Alistair’s GOTAFE journey began with a VET course in 2006 and has included a Certificate III in Building and Construction – equivalent to Certificate III in Carpentry (CPC30220) - and even a forklift licence qualification at the William Orr Campus.

But it was a visit to GOTAFE’s Mobile Campus while it was in Kyabram which pointed Alistair towards a Certificate III in Information Technology (ICT30120) and down his current career path.

“I chose GOTAFE for two main reasons - first, it was close to my family, which was really important to me. Second, I’d had some great experiences there in the past,” Alistair said.

“My decision to pursue a career in IT came from a long-standing passion. I had always loved technology but lacked the confidence to pursue it. After years of working in customer service at Bendigo Bank in Kyabram, I realised I did have the ability - and it was time to finally chase that dream.”

Alistair’s story shows that GOTAFE has something for everyone, at any stage of their life.

“No matter your age or gender, you will be welcomed at GOTAFE,” Alistair said.

“If you’re unsure about your career path or going through a tough time, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the GOTAFE support team - they are there to help you.

“For those who know what they want but, like me, struggle with confidence, I encourage you to take that leap of faith.

“You’ll be well supported every step of the way, and even if it turns out not to be for you, at least you’ll know you gave it your all - and that’s something to be proud of.”

Interested in tech?

“If you have an interest in Information Technology and enjoy working with people, I highly recommend the Certificate III in Information Technology course. Michelle, the trainer, is an incredible person who genuinely cares about your success—she has helped me achieve more than I thought possible.” – Alistair Wall
