Renee Paola – GOTAFE Trainer and Assessor, Visual Art and Design
From student to trainer
After completing an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design at GOTAFE, Renee immersed herself in industry work, which laid the foundation for her continuing freelance career. Despite beginning a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, she confesses, "I didn't finish it—maybe one day!"
Renee’s journey in education began when she was invited back to GOTAFE to teach casually. "I found that I really enjoyed sharing my knowledge and loved working in such a vibrant and progressive environment." This led her to pursue a Graduate Diploma in Vocational Education, balancing teaching with her freelance projects.

Renee's teaching philsophy
"I aim to simulate a real-life work environment," she said. Renee’s teaching philosophy centers on discovery learning, where students gain skills through self-exploration and expression.
One of her most memorable experiences was the graduating show at the Wangaratta Gallery. "It was a highlight, showcasing amazing work to industry professionals and families." Renee proudly notes that many of her students have pursued successful careers as art directors, senior designers, and renowned creatives.
