Staff Spotlight - Jack Arnold
Jack Arnold is enjoying his first foray into WorldSkills competitions as a mentor.
GOTAFE students and apprentices aren’t the only ones swept up in the excitement of the upcoming WorldSkills National Championships.
Jack Arnold – Trainer and Assessor, Automotive Trades and Built Environment – has been with GOTAFE since last year, and is heading to Brisbane this month as a mentor for a pair of students.
"This is my first experience with WorldSkills, having been with GOTAFE for just over 12 months. Prior to this, I came from a dealership with many apprentices, and I have a background in mechanics in racing,” Jack said.
“Racing mechanics is incredibly high-pressure, much like the WorldSkills competition, where all eyes are on you. You’ve got to block out the noise and focus, because the skills are there — it’s about showcasing them when it matters most.”

Ethan Marsh and Hayley Hopkins – both completing a Certificate III in Motorcycle Mechanical Technology (AUR30820) - will take on the best of the best in the Motorcycle Mechanics competition, under Jack’s guidance.
"They both performed exceptionally well, each demonstrating impressive individual talents and skills,” Jack said of his charges’ efforts at regionals.
"It's an amazing opportunity to highlight their abilities on a global stage.”
WorldSkills Australia’s national finals will take place at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from 12-14 June, with nine students, five teaching mentors and four staff volunteers representing GOTAFE at the event.
