Post date: 26th June 2026

Last week (14-20 June) was Refugee Week, and during it GOTAFE staff and students celebrated together at our Fryers Street Campus.

This year's theme of 'A Million Stories' was celebrated through shared stories from students and staff members about their experiences and the challenges and assumptions faced by refugees in Australia, as well as in dancing, henna, and a delicious lunch.

As one participant reflected, being a refugee is part of their story, but it does not define who they are.

With more than 100 people in attendance, the event was a reminder of the strong community connections GOTAFE has, both within the student body and staff and across the region.
