New Dental Facilities Go on Show at GOTAFE
GOTAFE’s new state-of-the-art dental facilities at the Shepparton Campus were unveiled to local industry members last week.
The new dental simulation facility was made possible by funding from the Victorian State Government’s Regional Specialist Training Fund (RSTF). The facilities will allow GOTAFE to deliver specialised training, in a real life environment, which in turn will help local businesses meet consumer demand for skilled dental assistants.
GOTAFE CEO Travis Heeney said, “The RSTF funding allows GOTAFE to provide a fully simulated dental laboratory where students can learn and hone their skills. By doing so, our students are learning the skills industry requires to help meet the critical need for skilled dental assistants.”
GOTAFE is proud to partner with the Hume Region Dental Industry. A Dental Industry Reference Group was formed to help guide course review and provide valuable feedback to ensure that the training provided met industry demand.
Mr. Heeney says, “Industry have indicated they are facing a critical shortage of appropriately qualified dental assistants. One employer identified that for one position they may get 30 applications with only two applicants actually qualified for the position and often they are not suitable. Having these state-of-the-art facilities means that GOTAFE can train students who will then go on to careers as Dental Assistants, and ensure we meet industry demand for skilled workers.”
The launch event saw GOTAFE throw open its doors to industry with trainers from our health, wellbeing and community services team on hand to showcase the facilities and provide information about courses on offer including the Certificate 3 in Dental Assisting.Study Dental Assisting at GOTAFE
