Industry and education leaders set to combine expertise at Careers and Futures Expo
The largest public vocational education provider in North East Victoria and the largest permanent employer in the Goulburn Valley are working together to help fill skill, training and workforce gaps in Greater Shepparton and beyond.
GOTAFE and Goulburn Valley Health (GV Health) are bringing education and industry together at the 2026 Careers and Futures Expo to help people explore study, training and career opportunities in some of the region’s highest-demand industries.
GV Health, which employs more than 3000 staff servicing a catchment of 150,000 people, will attend the Careers and Futures Expo at GOTAFE’s Fryers Street Campus on Tuesday, 25 August from 3-7pm.
As part of Northern Victoria Institute of TAFE (NVITAFE), GOTAFE brings together local knowledge and industry connections with the combined capability of an Institute supporting more than 18,000 students across 21 delivery locations and more than 230 courses.
“GV Health values its relationship with Northern Victoria Institute of TAFE and the important role vocational education plays in developing our region’s future healthcare workforce,” Karen Linford, GV Health Chief People Officer – Human Resources, said.
“We regularly welcome nursing and allied health students through placements, giving them the opportunity to experience healthcare in a regional setting and gain valuable practical experience.
“With strong demand for healthcare workers across our region, events such as the Careers and Futures Expo are an important opportunity to showcase the diverse careers available in healthcare and encourage people to consider building their career locally.”
While healthcare remains one of the region's fastest-growing industries, the Careers and Futures Expo will showcase opportunities across multiple sectors, with employers and industry representatives from healthcare, trades, community services, early childhood education and care and more.
“Healthcare offers a wide range of career opportunities, and there are many different ways people can begin and develop their career. At GV Health, we have seen students undertake placements with us and later return to pursue employment opportunities,” GV Health Talent Acquisition Coordinator Jimmy Li said.
“By attending the Careers and Futures Expo, we hope to help people better understand the opportunities available across healthcare, including areas such as nursing and allied health, and show that a rewarding healthcare career can be built right here in the Goulburn Valley.”
Data released by the Victorian Skills Authority indicates that almost 3000 new health care industry workers will be needed in the Goulburn and Ovens Murray regions across the next three years.
NVITAFE Chief Transformation and Performance Officer and Regional Lead for Shepparton, Cayla Fin said industry and education are working hand-in-hand to address skills needs.
“Meeting the workforce needs of the region, now and into the future, is a shared responsibility of industry and education leaders,” Ms Fin said.
“People attending the Expo will have access to expert advice, whether they are starting out on their education journey or ready to take the next step into employment.”
