Hands on Trades Expo showcases local education, employment opportunities
Year 9 and 10 students from across the region have had a taste of their future career options at the Hands on Trades Expo in Winton.
GOTAFE was again the gold sponsor for the event, with 17 stalls and 14 information sessions for students to explore across the day.
Executive Director Student Experience Laura Baker said the interactive event was a great way for young people to try out different jobs.
“This is always such a well-run, interactive event and we thank NE Tracks for again taking the lead in delivering this experience for students,” she said.
“Our interactive activities always attract a crowd and it was no different this year, with the Tesla electric vehicles and HVAC plumbing refrigeration pod very popular.
“This year we also had our Nursing, ICT and Creative teams on display,” she said.
“We’re broadening the understanding of a ‘hands-on’ role as so many of the courses we offer have that practical element.”
Inspired students have the opportunity to explore a range of pathways including studying at GOTAFE’s VDSS (Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary School Students) courses whilst still at school.
Applications are currently open for school-aged students.
More than 900 students currently study VDSS at GOTAFE across the region, in a variety of courses showcased at the Hands on Trade Expo.
School-aged students can also book a careers advice session with GOTAFE’s Youth Engagement Team, part of the Skills and Jobs Centre.
Those who attended the day and are keen to take a deeper dive into exploring study options, are encouraged to attend Wangaratta Open Day on Sunday 24 August.
With interactive vocational activities and an opportunity to explore different courses, you can take the next step towards your ideal future at the Open Day.
