GOTAFE and Wodonga TAFE confirm amalgamation
GOTAFE and Wodonga TAFE announced their intent to merge in May 2025, and since then, the organisations have completed further due diligence and planning.
The GOTAFE and Wodonga TAFE boards recently met and confirmed their agreement to amalgamate. With the conclusion of the due diligence activities, both organisations are now formally working toward the amalgamation.
This board-led decision provides strategic benefits to the region, strengthening regional education outcomes. These include:
- Equity of access to education for students across a wider region;
- Expanded course offerings and stronger pathways; and
- Strengthening industry partnerships, ensuring students have more access to knowledge and experiences that align with industry demands.
The organisations will continue to focus on quality education delivery, and there will be no change to the student experience.
Quotes from Acting GOTAFE CEO and Wodonga TAFE CEO Phil Paterson
"The continued collaboration between GOTAFE and Wodonga TAFE provides strong education and training opportunities across our diverse region. The boards met recently to formally confirm the amalgamation, and the organisations will become one legal entity by 1 January 2026.
"The concept of amalgamation not only aligns to the legal process but also highlights the benefits of unification of GOTAFE and Wodonga TAFE.
"The amalgamation is also in line with strong guardrails previously agreed to by both Boards, including brand retention, no forced redundancies as a direct result of the merger, and no campus closures.
"The GOTAFE and Wodonga TAFE brands will remain in public use, and the legal entity will provide the mechanism for the organisations to come under one umbrella. This will enable opportunities to streamline operations and education delivery, capturing new benefits.
"We look forward to engaging with our industry, education and community stakeholders as we work together to determine how to best serve the current and future training requirements through the amalgamation of the two TAFEs."
