Expanded IT offerings increasing course impact and reach
Tangible benefits are already arising from the expansion of course offerings across GOTAFE and Wodonga TAFE, improving access to education across the region.
GOTAFE now delivers the Certificate III in Information Technology (ICT30120) at its Wallis Street Seymour Campus – as well as at Wodonga TAFE’s McKoy Street Campus.
This is part of several expanded courses resulting from the amalgamation of the two institutes under Northern Victoria Institute of TAFE (NVITAFE).
Chief Education Delivery Officer – Service Industries – and Seymour Regional Lead Fiona Maher is excited to see the number of course offerings in Seymour growing.
“Growth is not just about scale it is about relevance, connection and sustainability,” Fiona said.
“It is important to ensure the Seymour campus is a welcoming and accessible community asset and a place where young people, career changers and lifelong learners can engage with education that leads to meaningful outcomes.”
Yea resident Samuel Dean began studying at GOTAFE’s Fryers Street Campus last year but was grateful for the opportunity to move closer to home in 2026.
“I started studying in Shepparton last year doing the IT course, but now that it’s offered from Seymour it’s less travel,” Samuel said.
“Particularly nowadays with the cost of fuel, that made it a bit easier to continue studying this year, less travel and less time on the road.”
Heathcote’s Georgia de Totto was equally excited to find out that GOTAFE would be offering IT in Seymour this year.
“I’m living in Heathcote at the moment and I wanted to have a career change to IT,” Georgia said.
“When Seymour came up as one of the campuses offering IT in my area and also under the Free TAFE offering it was perfect timing honestly, so I applied right away.
“I didn’t want to (study) online if I could help it.”

Trainer Sai Kommineni was full of praise for the new cohort thus far.
“This is a new role for me as well, just like them doing the course here,” Sai said.
“I really feel like we’ve got a really good batch (of students) at Seymour, they’re really enthusiastic.”
A further increase to the offerings at Seymour is also on the horizon, with the Certificate IV in Community Services (CHC42021), Certificate III in Pathology Collection (HLT37215) and Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (HLT43021) all planned for Semester 2.
