Apprentices & Traineeships at GOTAFE - top tips to set yourself up for success.
1) Know your award rates, wages, penalties, and entitlements. How much should I get paid? Should I get superannuation? What can I do if I am being unpaid? Use reliable sources to assist such as Fair Work’s website.
2) Be across your TAFE fees and who pays them.
3) Get across any grants and loans you might be eligible for, what they are and how to apply (e.g. Australian Apprenticeship Support Loans).
4) Record all overtime hours - (Make a note of any/all overtime that you complete. List on your phone, or note in a diary etc.)
5) Take workplace safety seriously and know your obligations as an employee.
6) On campus commitments: Be across any training, classes, or block attendance to campus – (GOTAFE supplies a timetable/training plan to students).
7) Find out if you are eligible for a Low-Income Health Care Card or a Living Away from Home Allowance.
8) Set up your Apprenticeships Data Management System - ADMS
9) Be across any discounts and entitlements you might be eligible for
including a car registration discount.
