Course Overview

Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (also known as a CI White Card) is endorsed by and meets the requirements of WorkSafe Victoria for induction training in the building and construction industry.

Successful completion of this course will allow you legal entry into building and construction sites throughout Victoria and across Australia.

As part of the course, you'll gain an overview of basic OHS principles and legislation, and an understanding of hazards, risks and control measures.

Topics include:

  • OHS legislative requirements
  • Duty of care requirements
  • Safe work practices
  • Principles of risk management
  • Common construction hazards
  • Control measures
  • Communication processes, information and documentation
  • Designated OHS personnel
  • Safety signs and symbols

The course is run over a six-hour class onsite at GOTAFE, consisting of five hours of class and one hour of face-to-face assessment.

Our trainers are industry experts who will support you both in the group setting and on a one-to-one basis. You'll also have access to the Student Welfare Unit if needed.

Important: On the day of the course, please bring a current photo ID, as this evidence is required by Work Safety for registration.

Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

To demonstrate your competency in this course, you will be required to undertake assessment activities including face to face assessment.

This short course is run over 1 x 6 hour face to face class at GOTAFE consisting of 5 hours of class and 1 hour of face to face assessment.

  • Aspirations/career goals
  • Educational attainment and capability
  • Literacy and numeracy skills
  • Suitability for Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer

Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.

You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:

  • Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.
