Course Overview

This course is the required First Aid qualification for anyone working with children. It's recommended that you take this course as a refresher every three years in order to keep your First Aid knowledge up-to-date.

This course is delivered by qualified Industry Trainers & Assessors.

This course will prepare you with the skills and knowledge to pursue a career working with children as this is a core unit in the Early Childhood Education and Care course and or teaching

Starts Friday 2nd August, 2 consecutive Fridays, 9am - 5pm / 2019

HLTAID004 - General Public, 1 day 9am - 5pm / 2020

Shepparton - Fryers Street

Starts Monday 5th August, 2 consecutive Fridays, 9am - 5pm / 2019

Wangaratta - Docker Street

Starts Friday 16th August, 2 consecutive Fridays, 9am - 5pm / 2019

The student tuition fees as published are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment. Please note all fees and charges are correct at time of publication for 2019 and may change without notice. 2020 fees are yet to be published.

Students will be invoiced for the components of the course that they are enrolled into for each year or semester.

Material fees cover costs associated with the following where applicable, and not limited to:

  • Classroom activity consumables, handouts and booklets
  • E-Learning resources and associated license access fees
  • Excursions

Additionally some courses require students to purchase or supply text books, kits, tools, uniforms and personal protection equipment. Some specific materials may be purchased through the GOTAFE Bookshop. A full list with associated costs will be provided to you at your course information session or during the pre-training review Interview.

Before being accepted into the course applicants must:

  • Undertake a Pre-training Review to document previous work experience and qualifications and assess suitability for the course

Assessment methods may include:

  • Scenarios
  • Simulation
  • Multiple choice exam

Students are required to kneel and lie on the floor as part of the assessment process. Participants are required to complete two minutes continuous CPR on the floor on an adult and child manikin, and 2 minutes on an infant manikin on a firm surface. The emphasis of this training is directed around children, along with Anaphylaxis and Asthma. Clothing worn should suit the physical requirements of this training.
