Update 17 April 2020
I hope you all had a restful Easter and enjoyed time with those close to you.
Tuesday marked the start of a very different looking second term for GOTAFE as we transition to our remote learning environment. I thank all students for their ongoing support, patience and commitment to their studies during this time.
The safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and communities has, and continues to be our main priority. While it is our strong preference that students stay home where possible, I also recognise that for some students there may be difficulties accessing technology and other resources. We are continuing to assist students to overcome these challenges and if this is affecting you, please reach out to your Trainer or our Student Success Team.
I want to reaffirm that there are no current or suspected cases of COVID-19 at any GOTAFE campus.
Stage 3 COVID-19 Restrictions
The Victorian Government’s stage 3 COVID-19 restrictions are now in place. Details about these restrictions can be found here. I urge all students to follow the Government's directives and minimise any non-essential social contact.
Impacts on training delivery activities
GOTAFE is now delivering training for our students in four modes. Your trainer should have been in contact by now to advise which mode your course falls into. If you are still unclear on arrangements for your course please contact us.
- On campus: We will continue to deliver a range of courses on campus in a face to face mode with strict social distancing measures in place.
- Flexible delivery: Some courses will be delivered online while students engage from home with their trainers.
- Adjusted delivery: For some courses the majority of the training will be delivered online while students engage from home. Any required practical components of the course will be moved to a more appropriate time later in the year.
- Paused: Unfortunately some courses which cannot be practically delivered in the current circumstances will be paused until we’re able to deliver them on campus at a future time.
Student support available
I want to remind you that many of our campuses remain open with staff available to talk to you face-to-face. These campuses include:
- Shepparton, Fryers Street
- Wangaratta, Docker Street
Campus opening hours are 8:30am - 5:00pm Monday to Friday and I would encourage you to reach out if you require assistance. Staff at all of our campuses have strict social distancing measures in place for your comfort and safety.Learn about GOTAFE Support Services
Library and Bookshop update
The GOTAFE Library & Knowledge Centre currently remains physically closed to ensure the safety of everyone. However the Library staff are working and are very happy to assist students with their research and study needs. You can contact the Library during the week from 8.30am to 5pm via phone 03 5833 2644 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please be aware during this time we are working with reduced staff on campus so if we don’t answer please leave a message and we will respond as soon as possible.
The GOTAFE Bookshop is also taking orders via phone and email with payment available over the phone. Orders will be able to be picked up from reception at Benalla, Wangaratta, Shepparton & Seymour. Postage charges will be incurred for other locations. You can contact the Bookshop by email or phone 03 5833 2501.
The Library may not be loaning textbooks from the collection, but we are happy to scan and email a chapter and will also provide you with the APA reference to ensure you have the correct reference in your assignment.
Please don’t be concerned if you have any items on loan as we have extended the return dates for these items out to the end of term (26 June 2020).
The Library eBook collection has also been extended to help with your studies with ProQuest (eBook supplier) providing free access to Academic Complete. This collection provides unlimited, simultaneous access to an additional 180,000+ titles. This free access will be available until June 30, 2020. Any titles directly relating to courses GOTAFE provides will be purchased for continued access.
You can access ProQuest on the Library Online resources page or direct via Proquest E-book Central. Login using your network login details at GOTAFE. If you have any access issues please contact the Library.
If you have any questions, please contact us on 1300 GOTAFE or visit our website where you can also find a list of Frequently Asked Questions.
We are all in this together, and we’re committed to work alongside you to complete your education and support our regional communities.
