Recognition Process

Contact Goulburn Ovens Skills Store to make an appointment with the consultant who will provide you with information about the Victorian Vocational Education and Training system, and will talk with you about skills recognition.

The consultant will use a software program to help you identify the skills you already have and how they may be counted towards a nationally recognised qualification. Following the self-assessment process, you will then receive a personal referral to a TAFE institute or other registered training organisation to have those skills formally assessed.

Your existing skills and experience may be recognised by a qualification or part of a qualification without you having to repeat training unnecessarily. All training organisations approach skills recognition a little differently. At your first meeting with your assessor, the process will be explained to you.

All Skills Stores services - including advice, obtaining an initial skills profile and referral to a registered training organisation - are free of charge. The Skills Store grant often covers the cost of recognition but in some cases, there can be a fee for the service provided by a registered training organisation.
