Loredana

Loredana came to Goulburn Ovens Skills Store to gain assistance for skills recognition, and seek a pathway to further study that would enhance career opportunities within Australia. Using Competency Navigator as a guide, Loredana was referred to Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE for skills recognition in Certificate IV in Business Administration. After gaining successful recognition in two units, OHS and Communication, Loredana enrolled in the Certificate IV in Financial Services (Accounting) in 2008 and will enrol in Diploma level in 2009. The units from Business Administration crossed over to the Financial Services qualification, thereby reducing the amount of time Loredana had to spend in the classroom, allowing her to concentrate on the more in-depth units in Financial Services.

Garry

Garry is a team leader for Scouts Victoria, based in the Benalla area. Scouts Victoria provide training for their volunteers as well as members. To assist in the training of others, Garry needed to complete his Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation. Garry came to Goulburn Ovens Skills Store for direction on how to have his skills as a volunteer recognised, and was referred to GOTAFE for the process. Garry was very happy with the entire process, from Skills Store to Skills Recognition, and is now looking at assisting other volunteers in Scouts Victoria across the state.

Vince

With over 22 years experience in the Baking Industry and no formal qualification, Vince decided to visit Goulburn Ovens Skills Store to get that important piece of paper. After using the Competency Navigator program with the assistance of a consultant, Vince was referred to Goulburn Ovens TAFE for his skills recognition. After speaking with the TAFE assessor, it was clear that Vince had ample experience to gain a complete qualification. The TAFE assessor created a training plan using the Competency Navigator report and discussion with the client that met Vince's specific needs. Vince had evidence to support 100% competency in all the units necessary to obtain the Certificate III in Food Processing (Retail Baking - Combined), a process that took around 4 months to complete. Both Vince and his assessor are very pleased with the result, years of work skills now recognised by a formal qualification.
