Tyler Smith

I had no idea what I really wanted to do after school, so in Year 10 I did some work experience at the Foster’s vineyard. While I was doing work experience there a traineeship came up, and after applying for it I found out I had been successful. So I left school and began my traineeship
in 2009.

I was employed through CVGT and they chose GOTAFE to do my training. I had two teachers during my traineeship who would come out to the vineyard to do my assessments and to help me with any problems I was having.

This sort of training really suited me; I loved working outdoors and the practical hands on experience I got at the vineyard, and found it easier to motivate myself with the other studies.

I got on great with my teachers which helped so much and found it really helpful that they came to me, rather than me having to find the time to go into class.

I’ve now finished the traineeship and was recently the successful applicant out of a number of people who applied for a full time position at the vineyard.
