At the end of Year 12, I had missed out on my first preference of getting into the Nursing program at LaTrobe University in Shepparton.
As it was my dream to study Nursing and I really wanted to stay locally, I looked at GOTAFE and enrolled into the first intake of students for the Diploma of Nursing.
It started out as sort of a back door option for me, but it has turned out to have benefited me probably more so than if I had got my first choice.
Through GOTAFE we had a lot of practical experience and opportunities for placement at local hospitals and facilities, which gave me a real insight into actual clinical work.
I finished the course in November 2010 and am now studying at LaTrobe for my Division 1 Nursing qualification.
Taking the GOTAFE option created opportunities for me, and I now feel more confident and have more knowledge and experience at Uni than the people who didn’t complete the Diploma first.
