Eleven GOTAFE design students placed in top 50 of Groovin the Moo t-shirt competition
From more than 250 entries submitted into the Groovin the Moo (GTM) T-Shirt Competition, the designs of eleven GOTAFE students were chosen in the top 50.
For the first time this year, GOTAFE Design Educator, Luke Surace incorporated the t-shirt design competition as part of the course program for more than 25 students across GOTAFE’s Docker Street, Wangaratta and Fryers Street, Shepparton campuses who are undertaking 2nd year of the Diploma of Design. Luke said he knew the competition would stir the students’ interest.
“I choose Groovin the Moo T-Shirt Competition because I knew it would appeal to the students and in effect the GTM became the client and the student had to work to a brief, just like they would if they employed as a graphic designer in the industry,” said Luke.
“The GTM was a great success not only because it simulated the industry environment and students got a taste of what it would be like to work in the industry but having eleven students placed in the top 50 also demonstrates the calibre of work being produced by local GOTAFE students,” said Luke.
“Creating the t-shirt designs for the competition was an assessable part of the create graphics subject that is a core unit of the design course, the subject is something that designers would use every day in the industry, so I wanted to make it relevant, practical and fun for the students and through GTM I think we achieved that.
“GOTAFE’s design studios have the latest facilities, with each student having access to the studios equipped with Macs and the most recent adobe creative software, our students are supported to create unique design pieces and best of all, GOTAFE students have the knowledge and skills to be work ready.”
The 2012 Groovin the Moo (GTM) T-Shirt competition was the eighth year the competition has been run. The winners were chosen through a public voting system and announced on Friday April 20, unfortunately no GOTAFE students were awarded first prize.
