Cookbook produced to give back to the community
Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE (GOTAFE) Certificate III in Business Administration students have produced a cookbook as part of their studies, that is being sold to donate proceeds to a local charity.
Students from the Benalla campus undertook the project to be assessed for three units of the course. As part of the project, students had meetings and worked as a team to organise schedules and priorities.
They were asked to collect their favourite recipes, design and produce the cookbook to be sold. The proceeds from sales had to cover the cost of producing the book and any profits raised were to be donated to a charity of their choosing.
The cookbook was completed on the 18th September of this year, and has aptly been called the "Business Class Cookbook." Proceeds of the book have been donated to the Benalla Trust Foundation, which is a local charity helping families in crisis by offering financial assistance.
GOTAFE Business Administration trainer, Lesley Webster, commended the students on the professionalism they displayed in completing the project. "All the students had to be really hands on in developing this cookbook. It was a valuable learning experience, and it has helped give the students skills and knowledge in dealing with customers, organising meetings, making timelines and monitoring sales. The end result of the cookbook is terrific, but it is also all the other skills students took on board and have learned that have made me proud of all of them," Lesley explains.
Students have donated $400.00 to the Benalla Trust Foundation based on the cookbooks sales, and have provided the Foundation with 47 remaining books to sell and keep the proceeds as part of the donation.
