GOTAFE announces Dramatic Arts academy

Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE (GOTAFE) has extended its commitment to Performing Arts training in regional Victoria by establishing a dedicated Academy that will specifically focus on programs in Acting, Dance and Live Production.

The GOTAFE Regional Academy of Dramatic Arts (GRADA) has been launched to address the need for quality, affordable, innovative and career focussed Dramatic Arts training. GOTAFE recognises there is a current void in education in this sector for many regional students who are passionate about Dramatic Arts.

GOTAFE has been successfully operating Performing Arts programs for the last two years and has moved to establish GRADA based on a positive level of demand for practical studio based training in the Dramatic Arts.

In 2010, GRADA is offering courses in the areas of Acting (Advanced Diploma of Arts - Acting), Dance (Advanced Diploma -Teaching and Management), and Live Production (Certificate IV and Diploma).

The Advanced Diploma of Arts - Acting is a new course offering in Victoria, and GRADA is now the only Academy in Victoria to offer this high profile course.

The Advanced Diploma of Arts - Acting, is a six semester course, focussing on building a company of actors who will work and train together for three years, and upon graduation be equipped with skills to pursue an acting career in the professional arena.

All students enrolling into GRADA will receive practical training utilising the state of the art facility of the Benalla Performing Arts and Convention Centre (BPACC). The facilities available to GRADA include the 350 seat proscenium arch theatre (Benalla Performing Arts and Convention Centre), which is co-owned by GOTAFE, and a purpose built fully equipped Black Box Theatre, (approximately 50 seats), in addition to classrooms, IT labs, student common areas and beautiful landscaped gardens.

GRADA aims to provide high quality training for Dramatic Arts students in a regional setting; Benalla is a growing hub in North Eastern Victoria, with a quality regional Art gallery, cinema, live theatre, and a lively CBD, all within two hours by car or train to Melbourne.

Studying with GRADA will give students the opportunity to receive high level Dramatic Arts training usually reserved for city Institutes.

Students from all over Australia are invited and welcome to audition for all courses and sponsored scholarship places may be available for 2010.

Student Services at GRADA provide free and helpful advice and support to students who may need to find accommodation whilst studying.

Auditions for entry into GRADA will be held in Benalla, Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd November 2009, and in Melbourne on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th November 2009.

Bookings for auditions are essential, to register your interest to become a part of GRADA's first class for 2010, please phone the GRADA Customer Service Centre, on 1300 GOTAFE (1300 468 233.
