GOTAFE announces exciting Acting course
With the future of practical based training uncertain at the world renowned Victorian College of the Arts, Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE (GOTAFE) is embarking on a new acting course which is based on practical training, being offered at its well equipped Benalla campus.
After significant Industry consultation, GOTAFE Arts is proud to announce that beginning in 2010, they will be offering a new and exclusive Acting course which will focus on the practical training of Actors for Industry and opportunities into further study.
The "Advanced Diploma of Arts - Acting" is a six semester course, focussing on building a company of actors who will work and train together for three years, and upon graduation be equipped with skills to pursue an acting career in the professional arena. This course is not being offered anywhere else in Victoria. The Advanced Diploma of Arts - Acting course revolves heavily around practical based delivery within the excellent facility at the Benalla Campus of GOTAFE. The facilities include the 350 seat proscenium arch theatre (Benalla Performing Arts and Convention Centre), which is co-owned by GOTAFE, and a purpose built fully equipped Black Box Theatre, (approximately 50 seats), in addition to classrooms, IT labs, student common areas and beautiful landscaped gardens.
The Acting course revolves around a methodology in acting techniques, which provides a core on which personal acting technique may be developed or enhanced. Specialist teachers who are active in the industry have been engaged to be part of the delivery team, as well as guest teachers such as John Wood (Actor), and Mike Bishop (Drama Coach Neighbours). The remainder of the high profile teaching staff have been sourced from the Industry, and are active in Professional Theatre performance and direction, Film making and Writing for Performance, in addition to specialists in Voice, Singing, Movement and other specific disciplines.
Living in Benalla students will experience the best of both worlds with all the amenities, lifestyle and safety a regional city has to offer, while still being only two hours away from Melbourne either by car or train.
Student services at GOTAFE provide support for students seeking accommodation, with relationships with many accommodation providers and real estate agencies.
Students must be a minimum age of 16 to enrol in the Advanced Diploma of Arts - Acting.
Enrolment is by audition, the first round of which will be held in late November 2009. Please call the GOTAFE Customer Service Centre on 1300 GOTAFE (1300 468 233) for course enquiries and information.
