The Benalla Museum Interactive Kiosk
A joint project between the Graphic Design and Interactive Design students at Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE's Wangaratta campus will benefit the Benalla Museum and its patrons.
Using a grant from Telematics, and under the direction of Centre Manager Ian Poole, teachers Luke Surace and Emma Jones have facilitated a collaborative program to design and build an interactive kiosk that will stand in the foyer of the museum.
Visitors will be able to gain an overview of the local history content of the museum by using an interactive screen on the kiosk. The screen will contain a main menu with links to show specific areas and items on display in the museum.
"The Graphic Design (second year Diploma) students have developed the imagery for their own individual designs," Luke explained. "The Interactive Design (first year Diploma) students are the builders who take those designs and make them all work with interactive touch pads or buttons."
The project, which is nearing completion, was presented to two committee members of the Benalla and District Historical Society on Wednesday May 27 at Wangaratta campus. Brian and Dulcie Chandler watched the demonstration with interest, and in a short speech afterwards Brian said the project was far more than they had expected to see, and commended the staff and students on their great work.
Luke presented them with a book containing the full colour designs. They will share this detailed information with other members of the committee before a design for the kiosk is selected.
A launch of the Benalla Historical Society's Interactive Kiosk will be held on Wednesday 29th July, at the Benalla Performing Arts and Convention Centre (BPACC), commencing from 4:30 pm.
